How to Throw a Ceramic Bowl From Beginning to End — Florian Gadsby

The longest video I've made yet — showing the process of making a ceramic bowl from scratch. From the wedging of clay, throwing, turning, glazing and finally the fired piece. (This bowl was fired too 1285ºc in a reduction atmosphere with a crackle glaze).

It's a long process really, that takes a number of weeks from the actual beginning to end, from throwing, (excuse the excessive banging to attach the wooden throwing batt, I use a different technique now) then drying out once to leather hard, when they can be trimmed, then again they must dry for a few days until they can be bisque fired to 1000ºc, this makes them porous and strong enough to be dipped into glaze. The bisque firing takes a day to fire and a day to cool, then enough work must be glazed to fill an entire gas firing kiln load, which can take another few days. Then finally the actual reduction gas firing takes another day to fire. All in all, with a few hundred pots, this process takes a couple of weeks, but it's condensed here into a swift five minutes.

Make sure you subscribe for more videos like this and thanks for watching!
