Ammonia + Hydrochloric Acid = 💨🧂💨! #shorts

What happens when you mix a strong acid and a strong base?? It’s definitely NOT something to try at home, which is why I tried it for you :)

The white substance produced is ammonium chloride. When the ammonia becomes protonated by the acid, the ammonium ion is formed. This cation combines with the chloride anion from the acid, and a salt is produced! Although this substance is a solid, it appears as a white smoke. The ammonia and the HCl don’t even need to be mixed together to generate this salt, as long as they are sat besides each other in open containers, the smoke will form.

And in case anyone is wondering, yes, this did explode all over my phone. All of the gold exterior of my iphone got removed by the acid😬
