Afghanistan Rejects Pakistan’s “Illogical” Claims, Defends Independent Ties With India

Afghanistan has strongly rejected Pakistan’s allegations that India is behind regional instability, calling the claims “unfounded, illogical, and unacceptable.” In an interview with Al Jazeera, Afghan Defense Minister Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid said Kabul maintains its foreign policy independently and will strengthen ties with India in line with its national interests.

Mujahid emphasized that Afghanistan will not allow its soil to be used against any country, including Pakistan, and called for relations based on “mutual respect and good neighborliness.” He also warned Islamabad against violating the Doha agreement, saying that any non-compliance could lead to further complications. Mujahid urged mediating nations like Turkey and Qatar to help ensure the pact’s implementation.

The remarks come amid escalating Afghanistan-Pakistan border tensions, with deadly clashes and a surge in militant attacks blamed on the Pakistani Taliban (TTP). Pakistan has accused Kabul of harboring militants and even claimed Indian support for the TTP — a charge India has categorically denied. Analysts say Islamabad’s tendency to blame its neighbours highlights its deepening internal crisis.
