Doink - The Life of a Clown

Wrestling Lists Presents:
Doink - The Life of a Clown

For most pro-wrestling fans, the name Doink instantly brings memories of a silly clown gimmick aimed towards the young WWF audience. If Matt Osborne is portraying an evil clown or a silly goofy clown, its still a clown. By in large, Doink is a representation of when WWE was heavily driven towards cartoony characters and stupid gimmicks. Fans who look closer though will see that the Man portraying Doink, Matt Osborne, was truley ahead of his time and some of the heel promos he cut were truly groundbreaking, the world just didnt know how to react, and instead thought "oh, its just a stupid clown".

What many don't realise though, is that under the clown makeup, there was a seriously good wrestler who was going through his own hardships. His battle would even continue after his death, as the late Matt Osborne's family still try to find justice for his untimely and unexpected passing. Through trying to find answers and bring WWE to justice, WWE fired back on accusations made by Matt's family, saying they were being misled by untrustworthy and greedy attorneys. Doink the clown may represent, to many, a time when WWF was at a low point, but look beyond the makeup and you'll find not only a well respected worker, but a man who was battling his own demons.

This video covers the career of Matt Osborne, from his time as Maniac Matt Borne, Big Josh in WCW, Doink The Clown and Borne Again in ECW.
