Lori Vambe - Drumsong (Three)

'Drumsong (Three)' is taken from the first reissue of two privately pressed albums from 1982 by outsider musician Lori Vambe, Drumland Dreamland and Drumgita Solo. A self-taught drummer, inventor, and sonic experimentalist, Vambe recorded these albums to realise his vision of creating music that had never been made before to pursue access to the fourth dimension.

Vambe moved to London in 1959 from Zimbabwe, immersing himself in the Brixton squat movement of the early 1970s, teaching himself to drum and creating a short-lived group, The Healing Drums of Brixton (Vambe, the sculptor Alexander Sokolov and Michael O'Shea). He would later create his own instrument, the drumgita (pronounced 'drum-guitar') or string-drum, which features on this track.

Drumland Dreamland and Drumgita Solo are available on 29th September 2023 as a 2LP set, CD and digital.
