Global National: April 16, 2021 | Tighter COVID-19 restrictions as cases continue to spike
The weight of Canada’s third COVID-19 wave is hitting hardest in Ontario, as the province announced new measures Friday to try and slow the spread of the virus. Eric Sorensen has more on the mounting measures, the request for help and the troublesome projections.
Canada’s doctors are also calling for “extraordinary measures” to curb the COVID-19 crisis that’s unfolding in several provinces. David Akin reports on how the federal government is responding.
As Canada reports record-breaking COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths, it can be hard to fathom that each number has a human story. Two survivors spoke with Heather Yourex-West about their harrowing experiences.
And, more details tonight about a deadly shooting in Chicago, which comes as the U.S. is still reeling from another fatal shooting in Minnesota. As Jackson Proskow explains, both incidents are leading to calls to rethink police training.
One year after the Nova Scotia massacre, a public inquiry is intended to answer questions surrounding the police response to Gabriel Wortman’s rampage. But a long period of silence from officials is making it impossible for families to know where to place their trust. Ross Lord reports.
Plus, Prince Philip will be laid to rest tomorrow in an intimate funeral honouring the Duke of Edinburgh’s life and legacy. Crystal Goomansingh reports from Windsor as the Royal Family prepares for the ceremony.
