Qigong for a Healthy Spine (Spine exercises for lower back pain)
This week's #Qigong exercise is all about supporting the health of your spine and lower back pain
You have the power to improve your health through movement.
Qigong was developed specifically as a way for individuals to take responsibility for protecting their health, promoting vitality and prolonging life.
Soft, slow movement of the body prevents the stiffness and stagnation that lead to degeneration.
Movement is initiated around the lower dan tien (center of gravity), with the torso and limbs extensions of this point.
Moving from the dan tien maximizes the power of any physical activity with less likelihood of injury.
More muscles relax when movement is from the dan tien, requiring less effort.
Alignment of the spine is most important, as if the head and neck are pulled upward by a string and the tail bone is being drawn downward and slightly tucked under to lengthen the muscles and joints.
This simple and invigorating sequence will take the spine through all of the movements it was designed to do.
Those movements are flexion, extension, rotation and lateral flexion.
Perform these exercises to the best of your abilities several times per week and notice the difference in how your back feels.
Remember, modify where you need to and listen to your body.
Keeping your body strong and flexible enough to perform these types of movement will enhance your overall health today and for years to come.
