WESTERN SPINDALIS CUBA!
In this very short video, we show you a male and female Western Spindalis from Cuba. The Islands in the West Indies where this species occurs, should have their own species. In the Bahamas there are two subspecies, one with a greenish back and one with a black back. The birds in Cuba have a richer green back and they have a different call. Birds found in Puerto Rico are different and the birds found in Hispanola are different. Jamaica has the largest subspecies. So there should be Puerto Rican Spindalis, Cuban Spindalis, Hispaniola Spindalis, Jamaican Spindalis and there are two subspecies found in the Bahamas. There is are greenish backed birds found in the northern Bahamas and a black-backed birds from the southern Bahamas. Perhaps these should be split into two separate species. Enjoy this short video of the Cuban birds.
