Iceland's trying to slow traffic with a "floating" crosswalk
A small town in Iceland created a “floating” crosswalk to slow traffic instead of conventional speed bumps.
The traffic control project is a road safety experiment conceived by the Ísafjörður environment officer Ralf Trylla. Trylla was inspired by similar “floating” pedestrian crossings in India he spotted on the internet. “I was looking for other possibilities and different solutions to slow down traffic other than the regular speed bumps,” he explains.
Spoiler alert — the 3D effect optical illusion is achieved through a clever painted design.
