HOW MANY MORE TIMES/THE HUNTER DRUM BEAT ANALYSIS

This video is a brief breakdown and analysis of the beat Bonzo played on The Hunter section of How Many More Times. I talk about the studio version and compare it to the live versions as well as some thoughts on possible similarities to New Orleans marching type beat.

I recently met the great New Orleans based drummer, Stanton Moore and we had a very happy discussion about Bonzo and his love of NOLA music, which brought us to talking about Joseph " Zigaboo " Modeliste of the Meters and New Barbarians fame. He suggested there is a similarity between the Hunter beat Bonzo plays and the Meter's track "Africa" off their album Rejuvenation (or Live on the Queen Mary). I thought it would make for an interesting comparison. For a long time, I have heard similarities with Zig's drumming as well and it was cool to get a common opinion from Stanton as well, who is a virtual encyclopedia of NOLA drumming.

The things I hear them having in common are mainly the slightly swung eighth note feel and the interaction between bass drum and snare on many of Bonzo's funk type grooves.... i.e. St Tristans Sword, Travelling Riverside Blues, Bring It On Home etc.

Also, please check out Stanton's excellent Drum Academy online at www.stantonmooredrumacademy.com and his YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCg3rrlRKj_AFoQH6U9g51rA

He has loads of informative lessons and demos available. He has played with a who's who of NOLA greats to numerous to mention. Also his band Galactic is a killer and he's done several excellent solo albums as well.
