PCOS and Mental Health, Is there a connection? | Dr.Anjali Kumar | Dr. Jyoti Kapoor | Maitri

Does PCOS lead to mental health problems? Or the modern day stresses are the culprits behind the onset of PCOS.

Actually both are true. Modern day life styles, increased stress, expectations very early in life and societal pressures trigger the abnormal hormonal changes. Wrong diet and sedentary lifestyle further adds fuel to the problem.

According to studies, women with PCOS are about 3 times more likely to experience depression and anxiety than people without it. In my clinical experience, 50 percent of PCOS patients report some kind of mental health issues like anxiety, stress, eating disorders, sleep problems and even panic attacks.

PCOS requires a holistic treatment approach and a bigger component of that treatment is taking care of the mental health. The first step however is to accept the problem and then seek the right treatment.
Remember, you are not alone in this journey!
