Saigon To Kabul: America's Hubris Ends In Hasty Exits
America’s ‘Forever War’ has come to an end in an unprecedented retreat from Kabul. Chaos & mayhem has gripped Afghanistan as Kabul fell to Taliban, weeks ahead of the complete US withdrawal deadline. The situation was so tense that 5000 additional US troops had to be deployed for immediate evacuation of all Americans.
US lawmakers, including Republican Senator Mitch McConnell, compared the US retreat to the humiliating fall of Saigon in 1975. However, US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken refused to accept the comparison to fall of Saigon in 1975. Blinken attempted to justify that the US mission in Afghanistan was accomplished and retaining forces in the country was not an option.
