"West Virginia Women" Ep. 05: Ilene | Harriet Tubman

I am so excited to share our next installment of the West Virginia Women series with all of you. Back on a rainy day in March, I walked into the Nutter Fort Public Library to see Ilene Evans perform as Harriet Tubman, and I didn't know what to expect. From her first breath, Ilene grabbed the room's attention and held it until the very end. I've never had a more perfect reason to use the word "captivating". Please enjoy the small taste of that evening in this video, and you must go see Ilene perform in person. It will move you.

**Ilene is a special kind of storyteller. In fact, she is a Chautauquan. These storytellers seek to educate both young and adult audiences through immersive portrayals of historical figures. Beyond the simple lecture, Ilene's performance will move you from your foundation. She reaches back in time and brings back to life women who once walked this earth. She portrays mostly African American women, whose lives impacted us more than we could ever know. It was an honor to witness one of Ilene's performances, and I implore all who see this to attend one as soon as you can!**

WVW is a video series designed to shine a light on women throughout the state of West Virginia. In a state that seldom has its full story told, women's stories have historically been overlooked. This series seeks to tell those stories, big and small. WVW is produced by Beyond the Ridge Media.
