It was a long, hard 7 month deployment, but the aircraft and personnel have now safely returned to their home bases in time for Christmas.

On 8th December, 617 Squadron ‘Dambusters’ Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning jets returned to their home base Royal Air Force Marham, Commando Merlin MK4 helicopters and seventy-four Squadron personnel from the Commando Helicopter Force’s 845 Naval Air Squadron returned to Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton, and 820 Naval Air Squadron returned home to RNAS Culdrose, to end this historic global deployment: The ships, squadrons and marines of the Carrier Strike Group have all now returned to their home bases across the UK, US, and the Netherlands.

In this video we have interviews with RAF Marham commander, Group Captain Phil Marr, followed by an interview with the commanding officer of 617 squadron, Commander Mark Sparrow. We then see the aircraft successfully return home. We then move onto the ‘Junglies’ of Commando Helicopter Force, and follow their Merlin HC.4 back into Yeovilton, which includes some stunning air-to-air footage. We end with a visit to Cornwall to see the Merlin HM.2 and Crowsnest return home to their loved ones, on a bright but bitterly cold day.

This video is a great way to end what has been a very successful world-deployment for everyone involved in Operation Fortis, Carrier Strike Group 2021.
