This footage was in a documentary found on YouTube. At the time Caruso had been conscripted in the Italian army, did not turn up and was on the run and unable to enter Italy for a number of years for being an "army deserter" (in reality he never showed up in the first place!). At the time Caruso stated in an interview to the press: "I'm not going to waste a year of my life wearing a uniform and marching around with a machine gun to be trained to kill innocent people who have done absolutely nothing to me. They'll have to come and get me with the national guard, the whole army, tanks and all... - and I'm still not going to do my military service, and that's it. Do they want to fight wars? They can go and fight them themselves!".
Caruso was eventually tried in a military court and dismissed from the army's heavy infantry after 3 months, legally "unfit for military service".
I'M WAITING FOR THE MAN

I'm waiting for the man,
26 dollars in my hand.
I came to Lexington 125,
Feel sick and dirty, more dead than alive.
I'm waiting for the man.

"Hey white boy, whatcha doing uptown?
Hey Italian boy, you chasing our women 'round?"
Oh sorry sir, it's the last thing on my mind,
I'm just waiting for a dear, dear friend of mine,
I'm waiting for the man.

Here he comes, he's all dressed in black.
High-heel shoes and a big straw hat.
He's never early, he's always late,
First thing you learn is that you always gotta wait.
I'm waiting for the man.

Up to the brownstone, up for 3 flights of stairs,
Everybody's pinned but you but nobody cares.
He's got the works, gives you sweet taste,
then you gotta split because you got no time to waste.
I'm waiting for the man.

Baby don't you holler, darling, don't you bawl and shout.
I'm feeling good, you know I'll work it all out.
I'm feeling good, I'm feeling so fine,
Until tomorrow but that's just some other time.
I'm waiting for the man.
I'm waiting for the man.
Waiting for the man.

Walking home... well, that's alright.
I'm waiting for the man.
I'm waiting for the man.
