The Hemel Airfoil HF15IV Full Lume Ivory & Hemel Airfoil HF15 Black
The Hemel Airfoil is a 42mm column wheel chronograph that brings a lot to the table, including a gorgeous hand-wound movement that is nicely showcased in the exhibition case back, a swan neck regulator for those who like to tinker with their watches for an even greater accuracy, and a full reverse lume cream panda dial option with a liberal use of Swiss Super-LumiNova that can make this watch glow like a torch. (Try wearing that with a short-sleeved shirt and walking into a bar or restaurant at night for a party. It's sure to start a conversation!)
We've all been wowed by the attention to detail here. The scratch resistant double domed sapphire glass features a curved magnifying edge which perfectly captures the vintage military vibe and evokes the look of earlier Hesalite glass, and the overall styling is based on British military aviator watches of the 1970s. With 100 meters water resistance and a 12 hour scratch resistant ceramic bezel, which can be used to time up to 12 hours, as a second time zone, or as a traditional dive minute timer, this is an extremely versatile timepiece.
I take a particularly close look at the Hemel Airfoil Ivory (the full reverse lume cream panda dial) and we also go hands on with the Hemel Airfoil Black (an all black color that would suit a wider wardrobe choice.) At the end, I couldn't resist a quick peak at the Hemel HFT20 Panda Date chronograph with the steel "GMT" bezel, a slightly more affordable mecha-quartz microbrand watch that also has a lot to offer.
Normally, even on watches I particularly love, there can be some strong negatives (in additional to positives) but apart from a few personal taste issues, I was really extremely impressed with these watches, (a very rare event, which those who put up with watching my other reviews can likely attest to.)
