UPDATED with Interview of Artopolis Bakery Owner!!!

In this video, we take you on a tour of Greektown Chicago, with a tasting of the Artopolis bakery specialties and greek wine.

Staying close to Chicago Greektown for two months during the pandemic, we took the opportunity to tour Greektown and travel through local food.

Greektown is a business and cultural district in Chicago running along Halsted between Madison and Van Buren streets.

The Greek community started moving to Chicago in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

On this Greektown tour, discover the long-standing restaurants including Greek Islands, Santorini, Athena, and Nine Muses opened since the early '70s.

From Greece they select and ship to their restaurants the highest quality extra virgin olive oil, superior wines, the best cheeses, herbs, and seafood.

You will also find quick-service spots like Mr. Greek Gyros and Zeus Restaurant.

As well as our favorite Greek bakery, cafe and grocery:
Artopolis Bakery & Cafe

[ Due to Covid, hours might have changed. Please check directly at the restaurant for up to date opening hours!]

Fun fact, in 1968, gyros and saganaki (flaming cheese) were introduced in this country by Chicago’s Greektown.

Today, we picked up Artopitas, the signature savory Greek Pastries from Artopolis and Greek wine Amethystos.

This is Claire and Rosemary from Authentic Food Quest on a quest to experience local culture through food.

Artopitas are puff-pastry or hand crafted savory pies filled with various fillings and greek ingredients like spinach, feta cheese, chicken, mushrooms, etc.

The Amethystos wine is a red wine blend (Cabernet 70%, Merlot 20% and Agiorgitiko 10%) from the Drama region, an up and coming Greek wine region.

This Greek wine is from Costas Lazarides, the region's first winery (1992).

If you want a taste of Greektown Chicago, here are 3 main events to check out:
Greek Independence Parade (April/May)
Easter
Taste of Greektown festival (typically in August, scaled back due to Covid)
