Russia launches major attack on Robotyne after Ukraine withdraws from Avdiivka

Russia has launched a major offensive against the town of Robotyne, in the south of Ukraine after Kyiv withdrew from Avdiivka, hundreds of miles to the east. Tanks, armoured vehicles, troops and heavy artillery pounded the town - which was one of the few places Ukraine recaptured during its summer offensive - but were driven back by Ukrainian defenders. Russia is thought to have reallocated resources into a major offensive on Robotyne following the capture of Avdiivka, which had consumed the Kremlin’s armies in five months of intense fighting, with heavy losses. A major assault is also expected near Kreminna and Bakhmut, both in the east and Marinka, located on the southern frontline near Donetsk city.
