A Year of the Bible: Brueggemann on Prophetic Tradition of the Hebrew Bible

As part of our A Year of the Bible journey, Old Testament Scholar Walter Brueggemann joined us for two Price Lectures on the weekend of March 29-30, 2014. Brueggemann is the most highly regarded American Old Testament scholar of his generation and the author of more than 50 books, hundreds of articles, and several commentaries on Scripture.

In this lecture given on Saturday morning, Brueggemann focuses on the prophetic tradition of the Hebrew Bible, addressing all that led to the destruction of Israel's Temple and nation in 587 BCE, and the Exile to Babylon that followed from that. He also addresses the problematic nature of the Old Testament, with its difficult texts, and sometimes disturbing pictures of God.
