The Best Wreck Dive Puerto Morelos Video // Mexico 2020

Just south of Cancun you can find the lovely town of Puerto Morelos - cute and quaint, this town is perfect for ocean lovers who aren’t fond of the crowds and big parties. This is where we were fortunate enough to experience some of the best wreck diving in Mexico with Miguel from Tolok Divers.

Originally named the USS Knave (AM-256), the C-56 was an Admirable-class minesweeper built in 1943 for the United States Navy during World War II. She served in the Atlantic during World War II and was decommissioned in May 1946 and placed in reserve. While she remained in reserve, Knave was reclassified as MSF-256 in February 1955 but never reactivated. In October 1962, she was sold to the Mexican Navy and renamed ARM DM-13. In 1994 she was renamed ARM Cadete Juan Escutia (C56). In 2000 the president of Mexico, Ernesto Zedillo sank the wreck as a new attraction for divers coming to the area.

The feeling we get while swimming through a wreck is electric. Researching the history of the ship before the dive is essential to painting a picture underwater. Swimming down the hallways I could imagine the rooms filled with the people who built it, those who served on it and all the laughs, the fears, the hardships and sweat blood and tears. It was a truly remarkable dive!

We hope you enjoyed it! If you did - give it a thumbs up, and drop us a comment and please subscribe for more! Thank you.
