Why Revenge is Wrong

Many people today, including intellectuals and even a former president, believe that revenge, or "getting even" for perceived wrongs, is both morally legitimate and psychologically healthy. Some even conclude that it's is a type of justice. But revenge and justice have nothing essential in common, as an examination of their fundamental characteristics clearly reveals. Revenge is never a proper moral response, nor is it psychologically fulfilling. We would do best to steer clear of it.
