Unboxing of the DJI Phantom 4 Multispectral Drone for Precision Agriculture

Dr Gregory Crutsinger from Scholar Farms, a professional consultancy for vegetation mapping with drones, runs through the new platform from DJI. Unboxing of the DJI Phantom 4 Multispectral Drone for Precision Agriculture. This is a 5 band multispectral camera, with an additional RGB camera for color mapping. It comes with an RTK base station for precision mapping. This is going to be especially useful for researchers and test plots for genetic trials or other field experiments interested in using UAVs for on-demand, high resolution imagery. Processing for this drone can be done in a range of photogrammetry software, including Pix4DFields, DJI Terra, and then cloud platforms like DroneDeploy, Delair, and others.

The success of this drone will depend on the quality of the imagery, accuracy of both the RTK and radiometric corrections, as well as further software analytics being developed. In addition to NDVI, NDRE, and other indices, it would be ideal to see plant or stand counts, and more artificial intelligent being used for accurate management decisions from the drone imagery.
