Penal Code 220, sometimes called PC 220 or 220 PC, is defined as committing an assault, with the intent to commit a serious felony, such as rape, or mayhem. An example of this crime, is punching someone with the intent to commit a rape, once the victim has been incapacitated.

If convicted of PC 220, the maximum punishment is 6 years in prison, and can be even longer than that if the victim suffered serious injuries.

However innocent people do get mistakenly charged with this crime. Defenses to Penal Code 220 PC are that you were not the one who assaulted they victim, it was a case of misidentification. Or it's possible that you assaulted the victim, but only in self-defense because they attacked you. Or the alleged victim could be lying about the entire story.
