Communication Styles in the Competing Values Framework

The 4 quadrant Communication Styles is a pretty well-defined concept (See "People Styles at Work" by Bolton and Bolton). Our research here at Online Talent Manager has shown that the 4 styles have a strong correlation with the Competing Values Framework and the Octogram Work Styles test.

In this video, I walk you through the 4 styles and show you how they relate to the Octogram test.

The take-away here is that how a person communicates has a high correlation with how they work. This correlation is not 1 to 1, a person's work style *can* differ from how they communicate, which is what makes interview-based hiring so tricky. There's about a 63% chance that the way someone is talking to you is indicative of how they work, that's enough to show there is a correlation, but not enough basis for hiring decisions.

If you are familiar with other Communication Style models (ie., "People Styles at Work") you will see that we rearranged the scales to fit with the Competing Values Framework. Other than this rearrangement, the concepts and ideas are the same.

See our other videos or our web site http://www.onlinetalentmanager.com to learn how you can use personality testing in the workplace.
