Welcome / introduction / overview of The Hotel Demolition Channel

Welcome! The Jack Tar Hotel was completed in 1960 and it occupied an entire city block of San Francisco. In the 1980’s it was renamed to the Cathedral Hill Hotel. But, after occupying that city block for over 50 years, it was demolished in 2014 to make way for the construction of a new hospital.

On this channel we watched that demolition. I recorded 34 weeks of the demolition, many hours of video — a little over 3 terabytes of raw video footage. And over time I edited and uploaded videos to this channel, both overall time-lapses as well as various closeups of the demolition.

After the demolition of the hotel was completed, this channel went idle for years. It became active again briefly for some videos of the demolition of an old TV studio building just a block away from where the hotel was. That demolition has also now completed, so this channel is idle again. This channel is probably not going to have any new uploads going forward unless they decide to demolish some other building nearby, which could happen, although I'm not aware of any.
