Avni Lekhara wins a Gold and. Bronze medal at Tokyo Paralympics

19-year old Avani Lekhara became the first Indian woman to win two medals at the Paralympic Games. Lekhara bagged a gold medal by equaling the world record and setting a new Paralympic Record of 249.6 in Women's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 final. She has claimed a bronze medal in R8-Women's 50m Rifle Position SH1 with 1176 points and has qualified for the final.

In 2012, Lekhara family suffered an accident in which Avani suffered a spinal cord injury and paralysed her below the waist. Her father motivated her after her recovery and enrolled her at a shooting range.

Avani began shooting in 2015 and made her international debut in 2017.
She rose the ranks quickly, jumping to the 5th spot in world rankings before the Tokyo Paralympics.

She qualified for the final after finishing 7th in the qualification round.
