During the Iran war, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and others shifted alliances openly towards the US. This comes after dissatisfaction within these states with the US over its support for Israel’s destruction of Gaza. While previously pushing for greater independence, they still depend on US military support and domination over sea-lanes.

It all comes down to one key fact, these states never separated themselves from US imperialism. Rather, their "neutrality" was an illusion masking their dependence. Under new pressure, they reverted to the US side completely.

The same is true about other regional players. Turkey and Pakistan speak of neutrality, yet manoeuvre between blocs while remaining tied to global capital.
What we see here is a manifestation of imperialist politics. No matter how much weaker capitalist countries might want to operate independently, their return to alignment with a great power proves they cannot.
