Detail: https://www.cite.hku.hk/event/20250224seminar/
Date: 24 February 2025 (Mon)
Time: 12:45pm - 2:00pm
Venue: Room 101, Runme Shaw Building, HKU / Online via Zoom (Hybrid mode)
Speaker(s): Prof. Roberto Martinez-Maldonado , Faculty of Information Technology, Monash University
Organizers: Centre for Information Technology in Education, The University of Hong Kong
Chair by: Prof. Nancy LAW, Faculty of Education, HKU
Abstract:
This talk explores innovative strategies for reimagining reflective and learning practices by leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI). Reflective practices are crucial for learning as they foster critical thinking, effective learning strategies, and the easier application of knowledge in different contexts. However, AI and especially recent developments in GenAI, are making us question which skills, knowledge, and learning strategies students need to develop to be relevant in the Age of AI. At the same time, these technologies bring new challenges by pushing the boundaries of assessment integrity and the potential misuse of tools meant to enhance performance but which may not be so easily re-targeted to support reflective and learning experiences. Nonetheless, classic AI and GenAI technologies such as ChatGPT, Gemini, DALL-E, and Midjourney are opening new opportunities to support these educational processes. In this talk, we will delve into state-of-the-art research on integrating AI and learning analytics technologies with human-centered approaches to support educational practices with integrity, balancing both the opportunities and challenges these technologies offer. The talk will provide numerous practical research examples that combine multimodal data analysis, educational data storytelling, and participatory design, demonstrating that AI can augment human capabilities for reflection and learning.
