In the 1800s, Leeds Massachusetts was known for its textile manufacturing, including vegetable ivory buttons. Given these details from wikipedia, and the upturned buildings in the image, I am reasonably confident that this photo is from the aftermath of the May 16 1874 Mill River Flood.
