Stedman Doubles at Rampisham, Dorset

Part of a quarter peal attempt on this Dorset five, with thanks to George Vant for his camerawork. Sadly, this one wasn't to be, as two ropes snapped - one in the test rounds, and a second within 200 changes! (On the plus side, it did give us a chance to explore upstairs!).

A mixture of dates and founders, the bells were last rehung by Taylors in 1937, when the tenor - a fine sounding bell - was recast; presumably, the canons on the front 4 were removed at this time too. (It is the tenor you can see ringing itself down at the end, once Aaron's rope had gone ping!)

The bells sound excellent for their respective ages, and handle well. One I would like to return to - armed with better ropes this time! (And yes, that is an Aaron you can see ringing Stedman!!)

Tenor 13-0-17 in F
