Rutland Surprise Major at Christ the Saviour, Ealing, Gr London

NOTE: Rare footage alert - Simon does not ring Rutland if he can help it - the footage presented here is a bigger collector's item than Aaron ringing Stedman!! :P

An excerpt from a quarter peal on this octave, cast by Mears of Whitechapel at two different times. The back five date from 1851-2, and the front 3 from 1948; these are quite possibly recasts from previous trebles. The bells were also tuned at this point. More recently, the bells were overhauled by Nicholson's; consequently go reasonably, but are hard work to strike accurately. They sound very reasonable for a Mears ring of bells, quite probably aided by the spire. This quarter peal preceded the "Steam on the Underground", as captured in my previous video. My thanks to Alex for the use of some footage here (even if he did nick the spot I was going to place my camera!) :-)

The church was designed by Gilbert Scott, and consecrated in 1852 as Christ Church. The unusual dedication was taken in 1952, when the parish united with the local St Saviour's during the rebuilding following World War II. (St Saviour itself had started life as a daughter church to Christ Church, before its own parish was formed in 1916).

Tenor 13-2-0 in F
