Growing up in an extremely abusive household music was one of the things I clung to in order to survive. As a child, I found so much strength in people’s spirits behind their voices and words.

The chorus of this song ‘Rise’ spoke to my mother and I; telling us that even after seeing everything fall apart, at some point we will rise again. A message so beautifully delivered by Gabrielle, with so much humility, grace, purity and love. Her voice comforted me and rocked me. Her message reassured me - I will rise!

Meeting this magnificent woman, joining her on tour, reminded me of those treasured moments in my childhood, sitting with my Mother finding strength in songs such as this. In those few minutes of the song - you could rebuild hope in a world that seemed so bleak, dark & lifeless. Every note and word sprouted colour into my heart and mind.
