00:00 - Intro
What's up you guys! In today's video let's break down the 6 things I wish I did differently with my Turo Fleet back when I started in 2017 - I will be breaking down what the mistake was, how I learned from it, and what you can do to avoid making the same one!
01:39 - Keep Track of Your Expenses
The first one on this list is to keep track of your expenses, this is important because at the end of the day, Turo is a business, and if you're not making money then what's the point? Additionally, creating expenses tracking systems only gets harder as you grow, so developing this as soon as possible will be beneficial in the long run.
02:43 - Build Relationships
The next one on this list is to build relationships in the automotive industry, this is a big one and this is one I did not do for a long time. Knowing people in the industry is something that will have value over and over again as you grow and scale your Turo fleet.
04:45 - Develop a Process
Next, develop a process as soon as possible - figure out how you run your business and really stick to that. Will you offer delivery? Will you do remote key exchanges? Will you offer pick-up at alternative locations? Knowing a process and sticking to this process will make your life so much easier moving forward.
06:37: Stick to What You Know
Next up is to stick to what you know - I think with anything there is always going to be a temptation to try new things and though this is, of course, good (to an extent) I would also encourage you to be aware of what you know best and try to stick that. I know in my case all of my mistakes have been made whenever I veer off from my standard process and though some of these mistakes allowed me to grow and improve, others were just a waste of time and money.
07:05 - Avoid Shiny Object Syndrome
On that same note is avoiding shiny object syndrome. Shiny object syndrome is the belief that the grass is always greener on the other side - it's wanting to try the next new and best thing, but this can sometimes be a real hindrance to you and your growth. Be aware of new things out there, but I would encourage you to not always go out and chase them.
09:07 - Don't Rent Cars You're Attached To
Now, I know it sounds dumb but we (including myself) have an attachment to cars, and if you are someone who has a car that you really love and you're tempted to rent that out, my advice would be...don't. The thing is Turo renters abuse cars, it's inevitable and I personally feel as though this is a mistake as it sets you up for disappointment. Make sure to try your best to only rent cars that you are okay with getting damaged.
