Playtime With Toothless (Vore Animation)
This is the longest amount of time and the MOST effort I have ever put into an animation so far! Hope you enjoy it! I know I enjoyed making it. ❤️
I wrote down all of my thoughts ahead of time WHILE I was still making this animation so I wouldn't forget them. Have a read if you'd like! 👇 I have far too much to say. 😅 Thank you for all your support so far. This channel is growing faster than I expected! Makes me so happy.
-------------------------
Notes:
This animation is made up of exactly 8 separately rendered clips ranging from 300 to 1000 frames each. (Yes, I had to wait for each one to finish!) Some clips are 24fps and some are 25fps. The KdenLive software I used for putting the clips together is 25fps, so it is what it is.
I tried to channel as much puppy energy into Toothless as I could.
I gave the balls different weights and colours for a fun distinction. The narrative in my head is that these balls are kind of like bouncy silly putty rather than ones filled with air. That is why they can squish!
Instead of trying to render everything at once, I rendered small sections at a time so I could toggle the physics on and off for manual animation when needed and also so the camera switching would look nicer. By toggle, I do mean I literally made duplicate balls with NO physics and replaced the animated ones because toggling that kind of control means using nodes. I am NOT using nodes! (Unless it's for replacing a texture, which is kind of cheating anyway).
I struggled with trying to figure out his leg movement. His back feet drag a bit! (Animation in general is a brand new skill for me, as I have been saying)
His armature is still very confusing. I figured out that I had to make the radius of my cursor smaller so I could be more precise in choosing pieces of it.
Happy to report I finally figured out how to grab his tongue!
I've still got that double shadow, but that's more of a lighting issue than a skill issue. I can figure that one out for next time. When I import models, they often come with their own light, which is probably why there was that little problem. No big deal!
I noticed the balls were a little bit lumpy, and though I probably could have fixed that by subdividing more, I didn't want to hurt my computer more than necessary.
I have gotten a slightly better grasp on the rotation of balls. Part of learning how to be patient (one of my goals) is to not rely so heavily on Blender's built-in tweening. Sometimes the results end up better if I manually go in and adjust every single frame. It takes longer, but the results speak for themselves! (Some good, some bad).
After the first two clips, Blender REFUSED to simulate rigid body physics no matter how hard I tried, so I created a fresh Blender instance and imported the Toothless model and remade the balls, hence the colour / size changes! I'll just cope by telling myself it makes the video more whimsical. Variety makes it interesting, right?
In managed to pull off a subtle breathing animation in one of the clips! Yay!
I am not satisfied with the swallowing of the squished orange ball. (First angle where you look into his mouth. I like the one where he is swallowing from a side view a little bit better). I really had to struggle with that one and the stupid tongue would NOT cooperate! It's hard to tell, but I got tiny teeth marks on the ball as it was being bitten down on. I'd love to experiment with that a bit more in future.
Of all the clips I made, I think my favourite one is the cyan ball bouncing repeatedly while Toothless tries to follow its movement with his head. So cute! I also like the little expression and tongue flick he does BEFORE the orange ball weirdness.
So glad I figured out halfway through how to move his eyes!
There is a tiny bit of clipping when Toothless swallows the doggo, but that's ok. It's barely noticeable.
I am happy with the belly motions.

Sorry this was so long. Thanks for reading! I'm working to get better with every animation.
