Tommy races at National Championships in Men's Para Ambulatory 1500m Ottawa July 4 2018

Tommy raced at the Canadian National Championships in his home town of Ottawa, in the Men's Para Ambulatory 1500m, on July 4, 2018.

Thank you to everyone who cheered Tommy on, both in person at the track, and online! Thank you to the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club and Athletics Canada for all your support! Congratulations to all the other Para Athlete Men who raced with Tommy in the Para Ambulatory 1500m, and best wishes to all the amazing athletes who raced at the National Championships! Tommy was at the track or watching online, cheering all his friends on as they raced! Some of his friends stayed at Tommy's Grandma May's house, and visited and trained with Tommy at his home while in Ottawa. Tommy was thrilled to see you all and host you here in Ottawa!
Tommy was very excited to race! He’s always keen to run, always. And racing here, at his home track at Mooney’s Bay where he trains with his Ottawa Lions friends and community, was just so wonderful! On the day Tommy raced, the weather was so hot it set record highs for Ottawa, which really affected Tommy and others in their races.
The evening before Tommy's race, after getting everything carefully packed and putting his number on his singlet, Tommy chose to watch The Pagemaster, a favourite movie from his childhood. Peter asked “Why did you choose to watch The Pagemaster tonight?” Tommy replied with just one word- “Courage.”
As the credits rolled, Tommy continued to watch with rapt attention, as the lyrics to the closing song rolled by in the subtitles (the subtitles he loves so dearly, which brought him into language and speech ever so gradually over the years)
