Derivative of cos(x) from first principles
Steps to find derivative of cos(x) from first principles
Begin by using the formula for differentiation in first principles and substituting cos(x) for the required functions f(x+h) and f(x).
From here the derivation requires the knowledge of three identities, namely cos(a+b) = cos(a)cos(b) - sin(a)sin(b) and the sine and cosine limit identities. The rest of the derivation of cos(x) from first principles is done by substitution, factoring and simplifying.
