Even And Odd Functions How To Determine

This video shows how to determine if a function is even or odd

For even functions, test f(-x) = f(x) for every number x in its domain, if this is true then the function is said to be even. An example of an even function is f(x) = x^2, geometrically an even function is symmetric with respect to the y-axis.

For odd functions, test if f(-x) = -f(x), if this is satisfied then the function is said to be odd. An example of an odd function is f(x) = x^3, When plotting an odd function, it is symmetric about the origin.

However some functions are neither even or odd as they do not follow these rules. The only function that is both even and odd is f(x) = 0.
