Sinking of the German Battleship Ostfriesland
This video shows the infamous sinking of the ex-German battleship SMS Ostfriesland by American aircraft under General Billy Mitchell's command on July 21, 1921 during an exercise to see if aircraft could sink the warships of the era. The political fallout from the sinking led to considerable controversy at the time, but proved that battleships could in fact be sunk through air power alone.
