Today I'm using a few more paints than usual, but they're mostly what I'd suggest as being useful to have no matter what kind of range you're painting. Particularly if you're planning on a host of fantasy miniatures, a range of browns, greens and greys will be helpful! Some of your highlights could be mixed from a variety of simple colours, but I like having extra paints on hand to replicate results - with miniatures that don't have a strict uniform, mixing can be a little easier.
