A City of Seattle Department of Engineering public information film detailing Forward Thrust neighborhood traffic planning. Produced by the Traffic & Transportation Division (Seattle Department of Engineering). A introduction and narration is provided by Willam "Bill" G. Van Gelder (City Traffic Engineer). The Forward Thrust bond issue was passed in 1968 to assist in upgrading certain neighborhoods (funded in part by the Seattle Model Cities Program). Works is assisted by community councils, the Traffic & Transportation Division and the Department of Community Development. The content focuses on pedestrian and bicycle safety through altering sidewalks, signage and creating traffic diverters, as well as traffic safety statistics and how the community can get involved in the decision-making process. Photography by William L. Dahl. Script by Gerald E. Beers. Edited by Ward L. Collier. Directed by Ward L. Collier. Footage includes scenes of community meetings, street traffic in various neighborhoods, street maps, children playing and riding bicycles in residential areas, and a traffic diverter by a school with a walkway for pedestrians.
