[B-roll - Interview with Michelle Sanidad] (March 27, 2002)
original format: Betacam SP, color with sound
Footage of an interview with Michelle Sanidad (Chief Executive of the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation (UIATF); Tlingit-Haida-Tsimshian tribal member) at Daybreak Star People's Lodge, Fort Lawton Indian Cultural Center Site. This footage was recorded as part of the Mayor's Honor Song segment that aired on the Seattle Channel in September 2002. In the interview, Michelle Sanidad briefly discusses the history of United Indians of All Tribes Foundation and Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center facilities. Sanidad details negotiations and advocacy for building the People’s Lodge (which was currently in settlement agreement discussions at the time of the interview) and how the facility will address current needs for the Indian community. Sanidad discusses commissioning Arlie Neskahi to compose the Mayor’s Honor Song. In the spirit of cooperation, the purpose of the Mayor’s Honor Song is to show appreciation, honor and respect for the work the City and the Tribes have accomplished together. The Honor Song was preformed at the 17th Annual Seafair Powwow at Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center for Mayor Greg Nickel’s first term in office. Sanidad also talks about the history, diversity and meaning of tribes’ family songs. Sanidad was personally selected by Bernie Whitebear to replace him as Director prior to his death.
