LANDSCAPE ARCH in ARCHES NATIONAL PARK - Ep4 2023 Summer Adventure

Join us as my brother-in-law and I do the 1.9 mile round trip walk-along (some would call it a hike) to see the world famous Landscape Arch in Arches National Park, Utah. This arch is located deep inside the park at the end of the Main Park Road, in what they call Devils Garden. The hiking trail surface is mostly packed gravel with some sandy sections and steeper inclines that would make it not advisable for a standard wheel chair. The trail entry point is walking distance from the campground with the same name where we were staying. There is a large parking loop near the trail entry point, but it fills up quickly after about 9 am. Thankfully, there is also designated parking for tour buses and large RV's. There is also additional parallel parking for larger vehicles on the South side of the loop just before the campground entry and this area does not fill so quickly due to it being further from the trail entry.

It was a beautiful crystal clear day and we started early enough that it was not too warm or busy to enjoy the hike. Each day during the summer travel season this trail can get very busy after about 10 am. When doing a day park visit, it's usually best to schedule an early entry and drive straight out to Devils Garden to see Landscape Arch... Then visit the other arch view points on your way back to the Main Park entrance. The Windows Arch and Delicate Arch areas can be exceptions to that "rule" depending on one's priorities during their visit. That's why it was so nice to already be deep in the park when we woke up as we were already where we needed to be for best viewing without all the day visiting tourists to compete with for parking and "elbow" room at the overlooks.

Lastly, if you have an off-road capable vehicle BRING IT. As you will see in the next video, acoiding the Main Park Road paved road viewing points allows one to get away from the crowds and experience Arches NP in a completely different manner! In contrast to the main park, we only saw a few commercial tours and several adventurous off-roaders when we got off the paved roads! Watch for that video shortly 😎

PS - Yes, I got the new Dometic D320 toilet installed in the coach the day before this hike, and it only took me half of our first day at Devils Garden CG. Thankfully all needed parts were obtained before entering the park and all necessary tools were on board the coach.
