DESERT BAR AZ - Jeep Wrangler Rubicon '21 JL Ride-Along via RIVER ISLAND TRAIL - Parker AZ Q16 4K

Hop aboard our 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon as we join the Q16 Jeep group for a run up to the world famous Desert Bar (DB), that sits just to the East of Parker Arizona. The DB is a complete restaurant/bar that's situated in the middle of nowhere and it runs entirely off-grid. It's been a 4x4 wheeler destination for many years. There are two ways to get there. One is over a graded but rough dirt road that's designed for street vehicles. The other way is via some semi challenging off-road Jeep trails that begin with an obstacle called the Gatekeeper that's sometimes also called the "Wall of Death". However, it appears I might’ve been misled into believing there was an obstacle deserving of that title. Can you spot the Gate Keeper in the video? There were indeed several moderately bumpy sections that also displayed negative off-camber ledges, but nothing where the Grim Reaper was waiting off the side like on Colorado's Black Bear Pass (see my video of that from last year). Stock Jeeps had no problems with this trail, but a few areas needed careful tire placement. I saw nothing that even approached a "Wall of Death" level, but it was still an enjoyable ride. The day was a non-typical partly cloudy one with some interesting cloud designs in the sky - sunny but not quite. They proved a challenge for the GoPro, but they also kept things comfortably cool.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Desert Bar, it’s been open for years but only on the weekends. During past Q's I did not have a Jeep or SxS, so I was happy to finally see what the DB is all about. It’s a very famous Jeeping & SxS'er desert destination. The burgers, chicken wings and Taco Salad (what I had) were filling and the other menu items looked good too. The music, well let’s just say it was loud & different. There is a quick and easy but "rough" to-from road for those who don’t have a capable 4x4 vehicle. However, the 4x4 and SxS crowd usually takes the more challenging River Island Trail route. I'm told that until recently, wheelers parked on one side of the restaurant and those who took the easy way in parked on the other. Parking for the two groups was kept separated. That is still true, but there is now a crossover which allowed us to make a quick exit over to the "easy" road & Hwy 95. Most in our group had an evening of festivities (more of Ray's BBQ) planned back at the Wanderlodge rally circle in Quartzsite. None of us wanted to miss yet another opportunity to taste his and Leslie's handiwork!

It was a very nice Jeeping day with the reward of lunch at the destination Desert Bar "restaurant". None of us drove back to Quartzsite hungry.
