OPC Annual Awards Keynote: Alessandra Galloni

Alessandra Galloni. the editor-in-chief for Reuters and a past OPC Award winner, delivered the keynote speech during the OPC's 84th Anniversary Awards Dinner on April 27, 2023.

Two years ago, Reuters selected Galloni as its editor-in-chief – the first woman to lead that global news organization in its 170-year history. Her career in Rome, where she was born, and joined Reuters on its Italian-language service after a brief stint with The Associated Press there. She left for The Wall Street Journal, where she worked for 13 years as a reporter and editor in London, Paris and Rome. Galloni returned to Reuters a decade ago as editor of the Southern Europe bureau before becoming global managing editor two years later.

Galloni was a member of the Wall Street Journal team that won the 2003 Malcolm Forbes Award for covering crimes that led to the fall of the giant Italian dairy company Parmalat, which astonished the business world. The team, including her colleagues Carrick Mollenkamp and David Reilly, exposed the details of a massive – and amazingly crude – fraud that included the disappearance of billions of Euros from Parmalat’s books.
