Saudi Arabia’s Global Religious Campaign - Krithika Varagur (Clip 2)

In this clip journalist Krithika Varagur, OPC member and 2019 Sally Jacobsen Fellowship winner, talks about the legacy of Saudi Arabia's soft-power influence in Nigeria, from its 1965 scholarship program to promote the hard-line Salafi movement, to the ultimate rise of Boko Haram as its "unstable byproduct." She also talks about the rise of Indonesia's Islamic Defender's Front.

On May 14, Varagur shared insights and discussed her new book "The Call: Inside the Global Saudi Religious Project," which traces the campaign’s complex history and diverse effects.

OPC Second Vice President Christopher Dickey, Paris-based world news editor for The Daily Beast who previously served as the Middle East bureau chief for Newsweek, moderated the discussion.
