*World's OLDEST* Board Game - Role of Senet in Egyptian Culture by Rhonda Hageman 10 19 2020

The Egyptian Study Society presents:
“Reaching the House of Beauty: The Role of Senet in Egyptian Culture”

By Rhonda K. Hageman
The average person, or even the average Egyptophile, when asked about important features of ancient Egyptian life and culture, will surely include tombs, pyramids, mummies, hieroglyphs, and many of the more well-known gods and goddesses.  However, one of the most ubiquitous and enduring aspects of life in dynastic Egypt is little known outside Egyptology. This is the delightful board game known to the Egyptians as s-n-t, usually now written as senet.
This lecture will explore and discuss what is known about the game of senet and its role in ancient Egyptian life.
Rhonda first joined the Egyptian Study Society in 2004 while she was a museum volunteer for the Quest for Immortality visiting exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. She has been fascinated by both Egyptology and board games for much of her life.  In addition, she is a fiber artist and a community college instructor who teaches English As a Second Language by profession.

Rhonda is currently the ESS web master and contributor to the Scribes Palette.
