Mr Bell Goes to Westminster

The story of the 1997 general election campaign in Tatton, where Labour and the Liberal Democrats have stood down in favour of Independent candidate Martin Bell, previously a BBC war correspondent. He takes on sitting Conservative MP Neil Hamilton (and his formidable wife Christine) in one of the safest Conservative seats.

This fly-on-the-wall documentary was made by BBC News and Current Affairs and transmitted on 26 May 1997. The editor is Steve Hewlett, who was editor of Panorama at the time.
