Rediscovering the Tahoe-Yosemite Trail: ALMOST California's First Long Trail!

The Tahoe-Yosemite Trail (TYT) was California’s first long trail.* Or it would have been, had it ever been officially completed. This 180-mile route connected several national forest wilderness areas and parks stretching from Meeks Bay in Lake Tahoe to Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite. Here is the story of the Tahoe-Yosemite Trail's journey from creation to obscurity, and my plan to hike it (if I can find it) once again.

*The PCT includes a section often referred to as the “Tahoe to Yosemite Trail” which overlaps a portion of the TYT, but they are not the same route.
