How "Happy to Chat" benches are tackling loneliness | Allison Owen Jones | TEDxKazimierz

Allison explains how she had the idea of attaching signs with the message "'Sit here if you don't mind someone stopping to say Hello' on benches in public spaces, calling them "Happy to Chat" benches. She describes how she put the idea into practice in her home city of Cardiff, Wales, and how "Happy to Chat" benches have spread around the world. This simple idea can be adopted by anyone, anywhere. They encourage people to start conversations and talk to each other instead of being isolated and sometimes lonely. Allison Owen Jones taught English at high schools and a Further Education College in Cardiff, Wales until 2018 when she took early retirement to pursue writing and photography projects.
