Solving Electrical Problems - Trial and Error [#15]

Electrical gremlins are always a pain in the butt to solve and we encounter them just like any other DIY first timer.

In this particular instance, our living room sockets circuit was popping anytime we tried to plug anything in.

1. Check to make sure your wires in your socket gang boxes are clean and not touching each other. you can isolate them with electrical tape as a precautionary step

2. disconnect all sockets except the home run gang box/socket to simplify and narrow down where the problem might be coming from

3. Check Your Wiring in your Panel! make sure the wires are not criss crossed and running to the wrong hot or neutral breaker. in our case, i had the white hot lines mixed up between two breakers and that was the root cause of our afci breaker popping.

4. you can cut into your drywall and rerun the home run line from panel to first socket box. this is the option of last resort but...works every time :)

Cheers,
Phil
